Houses in the early 20th century used to have an area of about 300 square feet. Towards the middle of the 20th century, house areas ranged between 400 and 700 square feet. Between the 1970's and 80's, house square footage started to increase to about 1,000 square feet. Near the end of the 20th century, houses became larger than 1,200 square feet. This trend continues in the 21st century; where houses became between 1,500 and 2,500 square feet. The need for room addition and house remodel is clear.
